Story
Olhão had since prehistoric times, evidence of settlement attesting to the occupation of this territory. The earliest written reference to this place designates him in 1378 as a place they call Olham.
The bar at hand and the existence of abundant water would have been decisive factors for some fishermen in the early seventeenth century, began to set up on the beach of Olhão. The village is developed against the wishes of the authorities of Faro, whose term belonged. To benefit from this growth, from mid-seventeenth century, the protection of the Fort St. Lawrence who, although poor, guarded the entrance to the bar and deterred attacks Buccaneers.

During the French occupation of the Algarve, in 1808, appeared in Olhão, June 16, a spontaneous and genuine popular uprising against the abuses of the invaders. In 1874 takes place a division of Portugal court that determines the final establishment of the Council of Olhão, with the current five parishes: Olhão. Moncarapacho, Olhão, Pechão and Fuseta.
With the passage of time, the small fishing village became a major economic center, social and urban booming so that in 1985, it is elevated to a city. The town of Olhão Restoration passes the city of Olhão Restoration.
